The Newcastle Falcons have announced that home-grown Australian Gems star Chyra Evans will suit up for the club in the inaugural NBL1 East season in 2022.

A graduate of Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence, 18-year-old Evans was a member of the Australian team that finished second behind Team USA at the FIBA Under-19 Women’s World Cup in Hungary in August.

In May this year, Evans won the Bob Staunton Medal as the outstanding player of the tournament after she steered NSW to victory at the Australian Under-20 Championships in Mackay.

Before she represents her hometown in the NBL1 East competition, Evans will play for Sydney Uni Flames in the WNBL this summer.

After flying with the Falcons in NBL1 East, Evans will jet off to the United States to begin her college career with NCAA Division One school Michigan.
